WEATHER WATCHER REVIEW SERIES

That being said, the series benefited from strong lead actors who gave great performances. That would eliminated some of the more eye roll worthy surprises. The whole series could have benefited from being a couple of episodes shorter I think. By the end of the series it was ridiculous. The problems with the series are that there were simply too many twists for the sake of twists. The tangled web of mystery that follows gives the audience whiplash from the number of suspects who at one point or another could have been the watcher. Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan for Netflix, the series is loosely based on a true story as reported by New York magazine's website, "The Cut." The series follows a married couple who, after moving into their dream home in a New Jersey suburb of New York City, are harassed by creepy letters signed by a stalker who goes by the pseudonym "The Watcher". The Watcher is a ridiculous mystery thriller that doesn't really pay off in the end, but is a fun ride nonetheless. I tried, I really tried but I can't even get through the second episode. Jennifer Coolidge and her comic talents are wasted here and strike a completely off base chord in this mess. Also, it can't decide if it is a really creepy horror story- or some sort of jokey, campy pseudo-scary story. You're telling me they would actually buy this house when they've already come into contact with all these weirdos? Then somebody kills the ferret or whatever it is and leaves it bloody in the hallway? Any normal person would be out of that house at that point. And if they didn't make me question it, it would be the Mia Farrow character, standing in the grass staring at the couple with her ridiculous Wednesday Addams garb, and her weird son.

Why couldn't they be suspects for writing these letters? Also, remember when the couple was first touring the house and they saw these same nasty neighbors laying out in beach chairs on the grass, staring over at them strangely? That alone would make me question buying the house. At no time does the couple mention these neighbors to the police officer. Any normal person would be like get the f*** off my property, and call the police. Seems to treat it like it's some kind of joke. The guy barely responds to them encroaching on his yard. What about the nasty neighbors who came on the couple's property to cut the arugula? They are obviously unhinged and threatening. The show has a problem I've seen in other shows -no character seem to speak in a way that any normal person would given the situation. Hello? Even the most incompetent or local-minded police officer you think would understand that somebody WENT INTO THEIR HOUSE uninvited and hid in a dumb waiter-maybe the couple would be a bit pissed? Everyone seems to think it's just fine that this guy is wandering around. The guy obviously is way under normal intelligence, why would they think he would be able to write the letters, which seem coherently put together? Then the police guy speaking in a chastising way to the couple, since they threw the mentally challenged man out of their dumbwaiter after he snuck into their house. Then the couple suspects the mentally challenged son of one of the wacky neighbors (Mia Farrow). But certainly an easier and less expensive test.

Why not check for fingerprints? Even that would be unlikely, that the police would bother doing that. Really? Would any Police Department bother to do an expensive DNA test for a letter in this situation? Do they really expect somebody- probably a wacky neighbor- who left a threatening letter to have a DNA profile in a criminal database? Seems kind of unlikely. Where do I start? The couple goes to the police to complain about harassing letters, and the police say that they will do a DNA test on the envelope. I am only on episode 2 and I am bewildered how this show ever got any good reviews.
